What are Acai Berries?

You’ve surely heard about the Acai Berry, a fruit that has ten times the antioxidants of grapes and has been endorsed as a way to lose weight and gain energy.  But is it really healthy for you or is it just one more fad?

Acai, pronounced “ah-sah-yee”, has long been a staple of Brazilian Rain Forest natives who harvested it from the top of Amazon palm trees.  Modern Brazilians use the berries as a drink which has a deliciously fruity taste with light chocolate undertones.  It also comes in the form of juice, candies, capsules and tablets.

Recently discovered by nutritionists in the Western world, there have been many claims as to the benefits of the Acai berry, mainly about its use in weight loss.  Wading through all the hype and advertisements can be confusing and misleading but the truth is that Acai berries have many impressive and healthful benefits!

In fact, the Acai berry is good for nearly every aspect of your health.  It acts as a digestive aid and contains a high degree of fiber that keeps the digestive system healthy.  Eggs are often called the perfect food but the Acai berry has even more proteins than an egg.  As for antioxidants, Acai has 33 times more than the red wine grape which doctors recommend for heart health.

Many nutritionists and even doctors are recommending Acai as a means to maintain normal cholesterol levels due to its levels of Omega 6 Linoleic acid and Omega 9 Oleic acid.  Some claim it actually reduces bad cholesterol but research has not been completed on that score.  Acai also has therapeutic doses of vitamins B1, B2, B3, C and E as well as minerals like Phosphorus, Potassium, Iron and Calcium.

As for weight loss, Acai berries are a very good supplement to help shed the pounds.  With the vitamins and minerals it contains, it provides a boost of energy that lasts all day long, suppressing the appetite and naturally increasing activity.  One of the biggest hurdles in weight loss is resetting the metabolism in order to burn the calories ingested.  Overweight people often have metabolisms that need to be jump-started due to inactivity or inappropriate nutrition and Acai has proven to be very good for that, even better than popular stimulants that can harm the body.  Acai resets the metabolism while contributing healthy vitamins, mineral and antioxidants that help the body achieve and maintain good health.  Weight loss comes naturally when using Acai with all its nutritional benefits!

When choosing Acai as an energy, weight loss or health supplement be sure that you get a product that is USDA approved and harvested from the Rain Forests responsibly. You can buy acai berry here.
